Parking FAQ — Sydney Airport
Sydney Airport parking questions, answered
These are the questions travellers ask most often about parking Sydney airport, grouped by the decisions that actually come up: which precinct, pre-book or drive-up, how the free short-stay window works, when valet hours apply, and how accessibility is handled. Answers reflect Sydney Airport's own published parking information.
Start with your terminal
Most airport parking confusion comes from one choice. Domestic flights use Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. International flights use Terminal 1. Pick the precinct first, then pick the product.
Terminal 2 + 3
Domestic self-park
P2 sits on the domestic precinct. Open 24 hours, every day, with drive-up and pre-book options.
Terminal 1
International pre-booked
P7 Premium sits on the international precinct, so you stay where your flight leaves from.
Longer stays
Off-airport value
Blu Emu on the domestic side suits longer stays and timed pick-ups, with free parking up to an hour.
If walking distance matters most, stay on-precinct. If duration matters most, look at Blu Emu. If handover matters most, look at valet.
The short version
Self-park never closes. Valet keeps hours. Pre-booking removes the guesswork.
Choosing and booking sydney airport parking
Four answers that settle most trips: where to park, whether to pre-book, how the three main options differ, and what free pick-up parking really covers.
Which car park is closest to my terminal?
P2 is the on-precinct domestic self-park and the closest option to Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. For Terminal 1, P7 Premium Pre-booked Parking sits on the international precinct, so you are not relying on a transfer. Blu Emu is off-airport on the domestic side and is positioned for longer stays and pick-ups rather than a short terminal walk. If walking distance is your priority, that ranking holds.
Can I pre-book, or do I have to drive up?
Both work. Domestic self-park car parks operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so drive-up is always available. Pre-booking reserves the space and places the arrangement under the airport's online reservation terms and conditions, which cover self-park and valet reservations. On peak dates, the reservation is the part that removes uncertainty, especially for early flights and school-holiday weeks.
What is the difference between P2, P7 and Blu Emu?
P2 is domestic, on-precinct, closest to T2 and T3. P7 is international, premium and pre-booked, serving Terminal 1. Blu Emu is listed as an off-airport domestic option for longer stays and quick pick-ups, with free parking available for up to an hour. Three different jobs, three different precincts or positions. Match the car park to the terminal first, then to trip length.
Is there free parking for pick-ups and drop-offs?
Sydney Airport identifies free short-stay parking rules for the pick-up zones. That covers a properly timed collection. Blu Emu also provides free parking for up to an hour, which is useful when an arrival is running late. The rule of thumb is to treat the pick-up zone as a collection point rather than a waiting area — arrive when the passenger has landed and is kerbside-ready.
What are the operating hours for self-parking and valet?
Self-parking car parks run 24/7, 365 days a year. Valet hours vary by location, so the valet window that suits a Wednesday morning departure may not suit a Saturday 5am flight or a late Sunday return. Check the window against your actual flight times before you commit to valet.
Self-park
Open 24 hours, 7 days
Drive up any time, including public holidays and red-eye returns.
Valet
Hours vary by location
Match the valet desk hours to departure and return times.
Can I use domestic parking for an international flight?
No. The domestic precinct serves T2 and T3, while international departures leave from Terminal 1 on a separate precinct. The two are connected by Airport Drive but have separate car parks and separate access roads. Parking at the wrong one means moving the car before check-in, so confirm the terminal first.

Marked accessible bays sit close to lifts and level paths on both precincts.
How does accessible parking work at the airport?
Accessible parking is provided for people with mobility parking permits. Sydney Airport states there are 60 disability accessible bays across the three on-precinct domestic car parks, and 56 disabled bays across three designated parking areas at the international precinct. Accessible kerbside zones on the Departures Roadway serve drop-offs rather than parking. Mention your permit and required terminal in your enquiry.
How far is the walk from parking to the terminal?
P2 keeps you on the domestic precinct and gives the shortest luggage walk of the domestic options. P7 keeps you on the international precinct for Terminal 1. Blu Emu sits further out and is positioned around longer stays and pick-ups rather than a short walk. Valet removes the car park walk entirely by handling the handover at the terminal end.

What do the reservation terms cover?
Sydney Airport states that online reservations are governed by its terms and conditions, and that those terms cover self-park and valet reservations. The airport also publishes terms and conditions of entry for car park use, and it requires users to pay the applicable fee for car park use.
The reservation is a contract with conditions, and reading them before you fly is quicker than reading them at the barrier. Check change and cancellation rules, entry windows, and what happens if your return flight shifts.

How do I contact parking support?
Use the enquiry form for questions about your own trip, including the flight date, terminal and product type. Once a reservation exists, booking changes and barrier issues are handled by the airport operator under its own terms.

Still deciding between drive-up and pre-book?
If your flight is early, late, or in a holiday peak, pre-booking settles the bay before you leave home.
